Baggage for free :)

Help the environment and make some money while shopping at Target!

I've accumulated so many free reusable bags over the years its getting a bit crazy. I stash them in my car, handbag and laundry room and use them any chance I can. I actually hate when I forget to bring them into the store as the plastic bags they give me are so thin my groceries have actually dropped out of them a couple of times. Not only that, I'm helping save a plastic bag from reaching the landfill!

Did you know Target gives you 5 cents back for every bag you bring in to bag your shopping? I always bring mine in, 5 cents may not be much but every penny counts! I usually have 4 bags with me so thats a 20 cent saving!

Earth day falls on April 22, 2012 this year and Target will be giving away free reusable shopping bags on Earth day. Bags are limited so get there early!

Chic for Under $50

living on an assistants wages and staying cut is a tough act. but this is my must list to follow!

Know where to go.
There are great stores and brands- like Old Navy, Target, & Playless- that consistently turn out fun, affordable fashion.

Know what to look for.
...pretty (and practical) details like good buttons functioning pockets, and nice flat seams. also neutral colors and jewel tones look richer. The less hardware, logos, and branding, the more polished you look.

Know a good tailor.
Seriously: the easiest way to upgrade an inexpensive buy is to get it tailored to fit your body!!

know when the sales happen.
Pre-fall merchandise gets marked down in September. Sign up for E-mail alerts from your favorite stores so you know about special in-store discounts.

Happy Shopping!

Birch box

AWESOME discovery in this month’s Birch Box!

I bought three pretty packs of these adorbs twistband hair ties thanks to the single one that was in my birch box this month. Aren’t they the sweetest little things you’ve ever seen? I received a black one in my box this month and loved it as soon as I saw it..or even put in my hair for that matter. Each pack of 3 costs $5 and it’s free shipping. Hook a sister up. Let me just tell you- For $10 a month, you get a box full of of random fun beauty products (all from legit reputable companies.) They are all sample sizes which is nice because you can test them out and decide for yourself if you really want to buy the bigger amount of that specific product. The coolest part about Birch Box, (I think,) is that there’s absolutely no commitment. So yeah, it’s $10 a month, but if you’re not digging it, you can cancel at anytime, no questions asked. Def worth a try if you’re a beauty junkie like mwah. Seriously, would I lie to you??? Plus, who doesn’t love an a box of goodies showing up at your door every month? I’m down.

EVENTS:
it’s official! The space capsule that Dr. Gregory Olsen returned to earth in following his 8-day journey in space will be on display at MarketFair starting July 20! See it before it goes on display in New York!

Dr. Gregory Olsen, President of GHO Ventures and the third private citizen to travel to space is proud to announce that the Soyuz space capsule, TMA-6, will be on display at MarketFair from July 20 through October 18, 2011. While Greg is finalizing plans for the Soyuz capsule to be on display in New York, he wanted the Princeton region to have the first opportunity to view the capsule.

Greg took off for space in October 2005 and spent 8 days on the International Space Station before returning to Earth in the Soyuz TMA-6. He performed more than 150 orbits of the Earth and logged nearly 4 million miles of weightless travel during his time in space. The Soyuz TMA-6 capsule on display is the exact one that Greg re-entered the atmosphere in, accompanied by one American astronaut and one Russian cosmonaut. The TMA-6 landed by parachute in the desert of Kazakhstan and the scorch marks visible on the capsule are from the heat of re-entry. Be among the first to see this amazing piece of history!

Just a reminder, as you are shopping next week starts the clothes for kids campaign from our local radio station.

Beach NiNi

My dad's house has been my life line this past week! Here in Jersey it has been 100 degrees for the past 2 days and not cooling off anytime soon! Blech! Thankfully my dad has a pool, so my sister and I have lived in the past week.
As fan-freaking-tastic the pool has been, my hair has been holding up a white flag! clorine is so0o drying to your hair, not to mention what it does to your blonde! (S.N. -put ketchup in your hair, sounds crazy but gets the green out) Bumble &Bumbles have an AWESOME clarifing shampoo called "Sunday"
Highly recomend it!(REVIEW: It's designed to remove build up in either one wash, or if you want - and they do say you don't need to - a second wash just to be sure. It has the slightest of fragrance (very fresh and natural) and you don't need a lot. It lathers well, and makes your hair soft again, because all the junk is out of your hair right after using this amazing shampoo. It's one of the best build-up removing shampoos I've ever used and it's so softening. You shouldn't need it much more than once a week, but sometimes I use it twice. I love it and highly recommend it to all product junkies. ) i shampooed them left the shampoo in my hair for a few min then rinsed it out and Good-bye Clorine hair!

My second Must have of the summer is Morrocan oil Hydrating masque LOVE,LOVE,LOVE!!!
(REVIEW:This is a great conditioner for very dry, overprocessed hair. the Moroccan oil leaves it soft. The smell is fantastic! ) now yes this is a little pricy however you NEED this in your life if you are a fish like me! Both are avil at Mystique Salon! ok thats all for now. off to Teresa's for din. I'm told there chicken alfado is delish! YUM!!

Fashion to Figure

My name is Stephanie and i am a size 11/12. I can admit to my size, what i don't understand is why clothing companies ignore my size!! my biggest pet peeve is when a standard size stops at a 9/10 and plus starts at 14/16. shout out to New York & Company for carrying ALL sizes up to 16 (however busty babes need not apply LOL) Torrid says they start at a size 12. their dresses are fab for us busty girls. however their sizes are uniquely theirs. (0-5 is fun to read on a tag) but most of their size "0" is way too big!! waaahh! anywhoo I have found an awesome store I cannot wait to visit this store next week!!!!! the website is (drumroll) http://www.fashiontofigure.com/home.asp
go, shop, tell me what you found! I will be posting pictures of my adventures.
BONUS: their stuff is actually pretty reasonably priced! my frugalista side loves it!!!

I love this off the shoulder look!

Beauty and the Cheap

"In order to be a sought after stylist you have to be trendy" -Ms. G. Anyone in cosmetology has heard the lecture, how we have to be as trendy as the clients we want in our chair, and how to "look the part" 24/7! I know at Empire of Bordentown Ms.Gail would stress the importance of having your own hair done(no roots, no ponytails, no wrinkles). However the lesson that was skipped was, how to look "the part" on a assistants pay scale?!?!

that's why it is good you have me!! before you put a cent out on clothes, you NEED a subscription the the magazine of your targeted clients.(think: Cosmo,Parents, Redbook,More) not only are your style trends there it is also great conversation started while you are washing your clients hair. Now,I have been a subscriber to Cosmo since 1999. I seriously love it! (I even save summer issues to look at in the winter to pick my spirits up from all the jersey snow!) which brings me to my point. Today on groupon the deal of the day is a subscription to Cosmopolitan, for only 8 bucks!!!!
copy and paste this link to get it!
http://www.groupon.com/r/uu29661668

now once you find a style you like then look for the same patterns or even just the color combo you don't have to buy the $148.00 t-shirt to be trendy! and if your budget is tight look for the trendy accessories

That's a steal! Also this month it has been 1 year since I graduated Empire. I will deff have my post up soon reflecting on this past year's adventures, and next years plans!

Protect Your Hair! (and save money)

Happy summer!!! summer is officially here in jersey however the temps have been super high for may. this little lady is not complaining one bit! I love love LOVE the heat and sun. As far as protecting my self from the sun that's a little different. as a child of the 80's i can remember tanning beds being sold out of magazines, and by my sophomore year i had a monthly membership to my local tanning salon, (as they say Gym, Tanning. laundry.) So now that I am older (shutter) and "wiser"I have stopped indoor taning.I know my hair is my identity & I love my hair, so I need to protect it. today's lesson goes for EVERYONE!weather you have highlights,or single color, or even sigh* box job it. THE SUN FADES YOUR COLOR, CHLORINE FADES YOUR COLOR FASTER,SEA SALT DRYS OUT YOUR HAIR! summer is so hard on your hair, give your hair some LOVE. the more you protect your hair the longer you can go between colors (saving you money YAY)

3 steps to protect your hair.
first block out as much as you can!
try:
Aveda Hair Veil.

A lightweight, water-resistant UV defense mist that forms an invisible screen to help protect hair from sun exposure for up to 16 hours, to minimize color fadage, damage and dryness.UVA/UVB filters derived from wintergreen and cinnamon bark oils help protect hair from sun damageanti-oxidizing blend of green tea extract, certified organic sunflower seed oil and vitamin E helps protect against free radicals
certified organic shea butter, coconut and palm oils condition and detangle
light tropical aroma blend with 100% certified organic essences of neroli, ylang ylang and wild-crafted cistus
frugalista opition:
a mist type sunblock like , it will make your hair feel sticky tho
second WASH it out!!
try:
Sun Care Hair and Body Cleanser

A color-safe formula that gently and effectively removes chlorine, salt and product build-up, while helping to maintain moisture balance.
corn-derived chelator removes minerals found in chlorinated pool water which cause discoloration
babassu-derived cleansing system removes chlorine, salt and product build-up
Frugalista option:
REDKEN COLOR EXTEND SUN AFTER-SUN SHAMPOO
Step 3 pamper your hair!
try:
Sun Care After-Sun Hair Masque

An intensive cream masque that restores sun-exposed hair, moisturizes, and helps defend against free radicals.
frugalista option:
leave your conditioner in for 10 min.
(s/n:all masques are pricey, but the are worth it! Mystique has trial size masques check us out)

Hairdo (or hair don't?)

Jessica simpson's newest addition to her extention line is clip on bangs! saw them at Cosmo prof last week and had to pick them up! this photos ia all you do!
I'm absolutely delighted with these bangs. They're perfect! (It matches my hair color exactly, I'm a semi-dark brown with some lighter hues and the R6 is just perfect.)
Not only the color, but the overall look of the hair is so good too! This thing really looks like it grew on my head, and not like it's a wig or something! I'm so happy with it that I just had to rush here to share my feelings about it. :)

What really sealed the deal for me, was the fact that those bangs come with three clips to hold it in place, placed in a triangle. It makes for a much more secure and realistic hold. The fact this hairpiece has three clips makes it hold in place so much better, it realistically looks like part of your head, instead of looking like some strange alien creature sitting on top of it. Yes, they are synthetic, but don't look bad. They were a bit on the shiny side, but if you dust them with a little baby powder and comb through, it takes the shine right out!

Best Foot Forward

For me the best feeling in the world is sitting on the swing with my toes in the sand! unfortunately I live 40 min away from the beach, and with gas prices (wanting my first born) driving there more than once this week was just not an option.(SN:seaside park beach badges are now on sale for the cheapest price all season just $45 go to http://www.seasideparknj.org/beach-tourism-parking-information/ for the deats) So I did the only other logical thing, I ran away! 2 miles to be exact. Now that my hair is shoulder length it does not quite fit into a ponytail so last night I had a to tie my hair in a 1/2 pony then take the rest into another pony (slightly Mohawk like) so today I spent the morning looking for headbands. Not the easiest task since my head is very Irish (aka big!LoL) I stumbled across these http://www.sweatybands.com/ my friend Lisa LOVES her but unlike her I need to try before I buy whenever possible so0o I found http://www.therunningplace.com/ it is right in Newton, PA and they sell them! yay! so now tonight I am going to try one of these bad boys out! sounds awesome!!

What do you use to keep your hair in place?

Proactive!

No this is not a blog about zit creme! For all new stylists out there the best advice I was ever given (and want to pass on) is, be proactive! Being an assistant is more than being the salon housekeeper.(Ok so it is important to have enough towels too) Don't wait around to be told to do something. Trust me, there is always something to dust! However in your down time, watch the stylists work, ASK questions! they love to talk about what they do. I totally love Mystique, & I'm so grateful for this opportunity! Everyone is so friendly and WANTS to teach. And the products!! *SIGH* I seriously don't know how I lived without Bumble and Bumble!!! Aveda is also Feb! I have been focused on learning about their skin care line, It is great everything is plant derived! no man made scents or smells
FYI: Mysique is hiring (proactive)assistants. check out http://www.mystiquehairsalon.com/ for more info!

What was the best advice someone gave you??

Your Hair Smells.....Like Strawberries!!!

I don’t have much experience using a Denman brush but, I find these Denman Tutti Frutti Scented Hairbrushes oddly appealing. I like the old school vibe–they’re basically a classic Denman styling brush, with a brightly colored pad and fruit design that corresponds to each brush’s fruit fragrance. They come in lemon, strawberry, grape, and coconut. this would make cute gift from the easter bunny! I just really want to smell these… Denman Tutti Frutti Scented Brushes are available at Urban Outfitters for $12.00 each.

Do you use a Denmans?
